Regent prof. Leclerc was an invited speaker at the XX111 Congress of the Royal Golden Jubilee Program in Pattaya, Thailand, the paper entitled ‘The Presence of Low-Level Jets in the Nighttime Atmospheric Boundary Layer: Implications for Nighttime Turbulent Exchange’ on April 1st 2010.

Regent prof. Leclerc was on a panel in March assessing the US Dept. of Energy’s Small Business Initiative Research.

The 90th annual meeting of the American Meteorological Society was held January 17-21, 2010 in Atlanta, GA. Our group collaborated with Dr. Andrey Sogachev on a poster presentation ‘Application of the ABL Model SCADIS to the Simulation of Nighttime CO2 Concentrations and Fluxes over Different Ecosystems’. Dr. Gengsheng Zhang will also present a poster “Influence of Clearcut in a Managed Pine Plantation on Flow Circulation”.

Our group presented a couple of papers at the AGU Fall Meeting, December 14-18, 2009, San Francisco, California, USA. Dr. Natchaya Pingintha will present a poster on ‘The Influence of Drought on Net Ecosystem CO2 Exchange in the Southeastern US”. Professor Leclerc travelled to Bangkok, Thailand to serve as a keynote speaker at the International Conference on the Occasion of the 4th Cycle Celebration of KMUTT to talk on Sustainable Development to Save the Earth: Technologies and Strategies, Vision 2050.

Professor Leclerc travelled to Pattaya, Thailand to serve as a keynote speaker at the Royal Golden Jubilee Ph.D Congress X “Climate Change and Its Impacts” to talk on Accelerated Climate Change: Seriousness and Need for Immediate Action.

◆ Regents Professorship

M.Y. Leclerc was named Regents’ Professor for her internationally recognized studies on atmospheric biogeosciences and climate change. The appointment was approved at the February meeting of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. Regents Professors are recognized for scholarship or creative activity that is innovative and pacesetting. The Regents Professorship is the highest honor conferred to a faculty member in the entire University System of Georgia.

M.Y. Leclerc has been appointed to serve as Chair of the American Meteorological Society’s ‘Atmospheric Biogeosciences’ Specialty Committee beginning January 12th, 2009.

◆ Peter B. Wagner Memorial Award

The Peter B. Wagner Memorial Award for Women in Atmospheric Sciences is an annual award based on a paper competition and awarded to a woman pursuing a Masters or Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or a related program at a university in the United States. Chayawat is a PhD student working with Professor Monique Leclerc in the Laboratory for Environmental Physics on the Griffin Campus.

◆ Award to Prof. M. Y. Leclerc 
AMS award for 2008 to Prof. M. Y. Leclerc, ‘ AMS Award for Outstanding Achievement in Biometeorology ‘ for pioneering research that has advanced our understanding of temporal and spatial patterns of local and regional carbon exchanges, and for global leadership in the advancement of biometeorology’. The national award was given at the annual AMS meetings in New Orleans.
